Cookies and local storage
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a site, and sent back to the server with every subsequent request. The browser's local storage serves a similar function, with one difference: its contents stay in the browser and are not sent automatically. ClosePeak uses both, and this page describes each of them.
ClosePeak sets two cookies, and nothing else: the one that keeps you signed in, and the one that lets your session be extended without asking for your credentials again. Neither is used for audience measurement, for advertising, or to follow you from one site to another. Because they are strictly necessary to the service you asked for, they do not require your consent. Everything else described below is kept in your browser's local storage or session storage. These entries fall under the same rules as cookies and are treated as such here. Services you deliberately join do place their own cookies on their own domains, beyond our reach: Google or LinkedIn when you sign in, our payment provider when you pay.
What ClosePeak stores
Entries fall into three categories, and this list is exhaustive:
No advertising trackers, no social network pixels, no ad networks, no third-party analytics tools. ClosePeak pages load no script from any other domain, and our content security policy blocks that technically.
Legal basis
Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act makes any reading from or writing to your device subject to prior consent, except where it is strictly necessary for the service you asked for. None of the entries described above falls outside that exception, which is why ClosePeak does not ask you for consent.
The authentication session is essential to performing the contract: without it you cannot stay signed in. Preferences are stored only at the moment you choose them: they remember a request you have just made.
The CNIL exempts from consent an audience measurement strictly limited to the site publisher. Here is how ours stays within that:
- It covers public pages only, listed below. No page of your signed-in area is measured.
- It records neither your IP address, nor your account, nor any content identifier: only the page visited, a visit identifier and the site you came from.
- The visit identifier is cleared as soon as you sign in, and disappears in any case when the tab is closed.
- It does not follow your browsing on other sites, and cannot do so: it relies on no third-party service.
- The data is shared with no one and serves only to produce traffic statistics.
- It is deleted automatically after 13 months.

Managing & refusing
Since nothing is stored beyond what is strictly necessary, ClosePeak displays no consent banner: there would be nothing in it to accept or refuse. You remain in control nonetheless:

A private browsing window clears everything when it closes, including the authentication session and the visit identifier.
Co-pilot preferences disappear when the extension is uninstalled.
Deleting the account erases the personal data that is not subject to a legal retention obligation. The necessary accounting records are kept for the applicable legal period.
Lifespan
Local storage has no expiry date: what is written there stays until it is cleared, by the service or by you. Session storage, on the other hand, disappears with the tab.
